HARVEST 2022

2022 Harvest Recap

We're officially wrapping up harvest here at Koehler Winery. It's been a long, challenging vintage, but it's nothing we can't handle. Winemaking is really about adapting to the challenges of the vintage and listening to what this year's grapes are telling you. This allows us to create exceptional wines every year that are specific to the conditions of the vintage making every bottle of wine a unique experience. We started harvest with Sauvignon Blanc in August and finished with our last pick of Cabernet Sauvignon on Halloween. Suffice to say, it's been a long harvest. Overall, it has been a moderately warm and dry growing season. However, we endured a grueling heatwave in September for about ten days with five consecutive days of 108F. This event was extremely stressful for the vines, which created an all-out dash to pick any grapes that were ripe before we lost our small window of optimal ripeness. The heatwave was followed by a rain event of about an inch or more. All of this resulted in a shock to the vines, stunting their ripeness process which meant waiting until late in the season to achieve ripeness. Despite these challenges, the fruit has been fantastic this year and the wines smell and taste exceptional. We're looking forward to sharing them with you!
